There’s nothing quite like the fresh start of a new year! While you can always start something at any time, the momentum that comes with the new year is something we should all take advantage of. We encourage you to set goals for 2022 that revolve around your finances and have a few goals that you can use as a starting place if you don’t know where to start.
- Increase Your Savings Percentage
It’s way easier to think about savings in terms of percentages vs. actual amounts. If you’ve been setting aside 30% each month, maybe you could set a goal to make it 35% each month. To do so, you’ll need to cut back on other areas of your life.
- Max Out Your Emergency Fund
Emergency funds are there for a reason - emergencies. So whether you’ve never had one or you’ve had one and had to dip into it, let 2022 be the year you build it back up. We recommend having 3-6 months of your basic living expenses in there and nothing more.
- Meet With a Financial Advisor
Have you ever wondered whether or not you should meet with a financial advisor or what it’s like? Make 2022 the year you go for it and book that meeting! Financial advisors can help you identify how much you need to save to hit big goals, how to invest your money, and more.
- Stick to a Budget - Once and For All
Maybe you’ve always wanted to stick to a budget, but have never really been disciplined enough to. We’ve all been there and it’s never too late to start implementing better money spending practices. Why not start 2022 strong with some reflection on how you spent your money in 2021 and a realistic budget for 2022?
We hope this encourages you to think about where you want to be a year from now financially and set goals for yourself.
